Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

An 18 year-old Jena man was arrested last week after illegal drugs were found in his possession following a traffic stop.

Weston Ainsworth, 18, of Jena, was pulled over by a LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Deputy during the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 11, after the deputy observed him driving erratically on US Hwy. 84 in Jena.

Upon stopping Ainsworth, the deputy learned that he was driving with a suspended driver’s license and he was arrested.

During a routine search of Ainsworth upon his arrest, the deputy found a small bag inside his wallet containing suspected methamphetamine and a folded one-dollar bill with suspected methamphetamine.

While searching the vehicle, deputies located a Taurus .38 special stuffed beside the driver’s seat where Ainsworth was sitting.

Ainsworth was then transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail and booked on the following charges: Improper Lane Usage, Failure To Use Turn Signal, Driving Under Suspension, Possession of CDS II Methamphetamine, Possession of CDS II With A Firearm, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
