Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest in Jena, LA
A routine traffic stop by Jena police on Monday, June 22, 2015, led to the arrest of an occupant in the vehicle on possession with intent to distribute charges, according to Jena Chief of Police Scott McLendon.
Near noon on Monday, Chief McLendon detained a vehicle after the driver failed to stop as it entered LA 127 North from Cary Street. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Jessica Dawn Taylor, 22, of Evansville, Indiana, was issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign and driving without a license.
A backseat passenger was identified as Russell Edward Brooks, Sr., 58, of Harrisonburg, LA. An attending Jena PD Officer noticed a container next to Brooks’ foot and asked to see the container. With permission, the officer opened the container and found a clear substance suspected to be crystal meth.
Brooks was read his rights per Miranda, and upon further questioning, he told officers that there was more dope in the backseat where he was sitting. Officers found a small black zip up bag which contained a clear substance also suspected to be crystal meth.
Brooks was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail where he was booked on a charge of possession of crystal meth with intent to distribute.
