Deputy Terry Keene and his K9 Vic took top honors at the United States Police Canine Assoc. Regional Certification

During March 20 – 25, 2011, the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 Department participated in the USPCA (United States Police Canine Association) Regional Certification Trials, along with 48 other K-9 teams. Deputy Terry Keene and partner, K-9 Vic, placed first in building search and were awarded first place over all in the Narcotic Detection Trial.  Deputy Richard Smith and his K-9 partner, Indi, obtained Narcotics Detection Certification, while Deputy Denny Pittman and his K-9 partner, Coop, obtained certification in both Narcotics Detection and Patrol.

 

Each of the K-9 Teams will participate in Certification Trials for NPCA and NNDDA later in 2011.  Many hours of training are required to prepare these teams for certification and to maintain performance standards.  Chief Deputy Operations and Trainer, Daryl Husbands, is certified as a judge for the United States Police Canine Association, National Narcotic Detective Dog Association and National Police Canine Association.
