On Friday, March 29, at about 11 AM, LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotic detectives, along with LPSO deputies responded to a complaint of illegal drug activity at a small utility barn that belonged to David C. James, Jr., age 39, of Jena.
As deputies approached the location, a red Ford Mustang pulled up to the utility barn. A black male, identified as Deon Jones, age 32 of Jena, exited the car and entered the utility barn.
Later, Jones re-opened the door of structure. When he saw the law enforcement officers, he retreated into the barn. Deputies observed a white male, known to be David James, Jr., sitting on a couch inside of the structure. James invited the deputies to come inside the structure.
Both Jones and James were advised of the purpose of the visit and their Miranda Rights were read to them. Both men stated that they understood their rights.
Deputies asked James if there were any illegal substances in the structure. James stood up revealing a small clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance, suspected to be methamphetamine.
The suspected methamphetamines were then secured as evidence. A K-9 was then used to search the exterior and interior of Jones’ vehicle. This search revealed one package of synthetic marijuana found on the driver’s side visor. Two empty packages of synthetic marijuana were found and one homemade smoking pipe was located on the center console of the vehicle.
These items were in plain view of officers looking into the vehicle through the windows. All items were secured as evidence in this case.
Both James and Jones were placed under arrest and transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail for booking. During the investigation, it was discovered that Jones had just brought the suspected baggie of methamphetamines to James.
Jones was booked on the following charges: distribution of CDS II, methamphetamines; possession of CDS I, synthetic marijuana; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
James was booked on a charge of possession of CDS II, methamphetamines.
As of press time on Monday, April 5, 2013, both Jones and James were being held in the parish jail awaiting a bond hearing.
