Two Men Arrested for Auto Theft
LaSalle Parish Sheriff’sDetectives arrested two menWednesday, August 13, 2014, for stealing a vehicle from a residence in LaSalle Parish, according to Sheriff Scott Franklin.
Detectives received a call from the victim, who resides on LA 126 in LaSalle Parish, on August 1st, reporting that his car was missing from his residence.
Responding officers located an abandoned ATV not far from this location and suspected it was related to this call. Detectives began tracing the origin of the ATV and discovered it was stolen from a residence in Caldwell Parish.
Working with Caldwell Parish authorities, LPSO detectives identified two suspects in both thefts.
On AUG 6th, evidence was obtained that revealed these two suspects were involved in the theft of the vehicle from the residence on LA 126. Warrants were subsequently issued.
On AUG 13th,two men, James Ray Phelps, 17, of Jonesville, LA, and Dalton B. Poole, 18, of Jena, LA were arrested and booked on the charge of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Bond was set at $15,000 on each of them.
As of press time on Monday, August 18th, both Phelps and Poole remained in the LaSalle Parish Jail in lieu of bond.
The stolen vehicle was located and returned to its owner.
“I commend the officers involved in solving this case and returning the stolen vehicle to its owner,” Sheriff Franklin said. “We take every crime very seriously at the sheriff’s office, whether it is drugs, oil/gas field thefts, or the theft of a vehicle. Our officers will work around the clock if necessary to solve these crimes when they are committed,” he said. “Again, we want to acknowledge the excellent working relationship we have with law abiding citizens of this parish who provide tips on suspicious activities in the parish.”
