Traffic stop yields illegal drug arrest

On the night of Saturday, January 4, at about 10 p.m., a LPSO K-9 deputy stopped a vehicle with an equipment violation on Hwy 84 west in Trout.
The deputy spoke with the driver identified to be Johnathan Tyler Lee Cox, 23, of Tullos and was found to be driving with a suspended license.
Due to Cox appearing nervous, the deputy utilized his K-9 partner Max, which yielded a positive alert on the vehicle.
During a search, deputies located a handgun under the driver seat along with a small clear baggie containing suspected methamphetamine inside the ashtray.
Cox was placed under arrest and transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail and booked on charges of no tail lamps, driving under suspension, possession of CDS II methamphetamine, and illegal carrying of a weapon.
