A 58-year-old man from Rapides Parish, LA has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of oil and gas equipment in the Tullos, LA area, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
Daniel I. Lewis, 58, of Pineville, LA was arrested by LPSO detectives on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, and charged with criminal damage to property and theft of oil and gas equipment.
LPSO detectives began an investigation on July 1, 2014, when they were contacted by Tullos Police about a large generator that was found hidden on an oil lease in Tullos. As detectives examined the scene, it was apparent that the trailer used to haul this generator was too small and had broken down. The generator had been taken from a generator station owned and operated by S. H. Loe Oil Corporation of Tullos, LA.
Further investigation revealed that several more items of significant value had been stolen from this location. With information gained from Tullos and Jena Police Departments, LPSO detectives were able to piece together the events surrounding these thefts and determine who was involved in the thefts.
Detectives discovered that Daniel I. Lewis owned, and was seen driving, the vehicle that was transporting the large generator in the Tullos area on the morning of July 1, 2014. Other evidence at the scene also pointed to Lewis as one of the persons responsible for these crimes.
Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Lewis and enlisted the assistance of the United States Marshal Service to track down and arrest Lewis on July 2, 2014 without incident. He was transported to the LaSalle Parish Jail and booked on charges of criminal damage to property and theft of oil and gas equipment.
Bond for Lewis was set at $15,000.
