Trout, LA Man Killed in Vehicle Incident
A Trout, LA man was killed near midnight Friday, June 13, 2014, when he was struck by a pickup truck.
State Police Troop E Officers responded to the incident around 11:35 PM, Friday, June 13, 2014. The incident occurred on LA HWY 8 near its intersection with Church Street, just west of the Jena, LA city limits.
The incident involved a 2012 GMC pickup truck driven by Marion M. Lester, 34, of Jena, LA, and James Henry Thompson, a pedestrian. State Police said the pickup truck was eastbound on LA HWY 8 when it collided with Thompson in the eastbound lane of the highway.
James Henry Thompson, III, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Deputy LaSalle Parish Coroner.
Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
Troopers advised pedestrians walking near roadways to always make themselves visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing, and reflective materials. Pedestrians walking at night should carry a flashlight for added safety. Pedestrians should always walk on a sidewalk if one is available; if not, they should always walk on the shoulder of the road, as close to the roadway edge as possible, always facing traffic.
Troop E Officers have investigated 23 fatal vehicle incidents in 2014, which produced 26 fatalities.
