Man charged with 2nd-degree murder

A 30-year-old Summerville man was charged last week with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death over the previous weekend of a 49-year-old Summerville man, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
James R. Rosier, 30, of Summerville was charged with second-degree murder of Sherwood G. Breithaupt, 49, of 163 Richard Road in Summerville community.
At about 4:45 a.m. Sunday morning, August 5, 2018, the LPSO was notified of a possible homicide at 163 Richard Road, Olla, LA (in the Summerville area).
Detectives and deputies from the LPSO responded to the address and after making entry, officers located a white male identified as 49-year-old Sherwood G. Breithaupt deceased in the residence.
Approximately an hour and a half later, a person of interest was placed in custody. Breithaupt’s body was sent to Lafayette for an autopsy.
Sheriff Franklin confirmed that the autopsy revealed that Breithaupt died from gunshot wounds and after gathering sufficient evidence, Rosier was charged with his murder.
Judge J. Christopher Peters of the 28th Judicial District Court set bond on Rosier last Thursday in the amount of $761,000.
