Jena Couple Arrested on Multiple Charges
LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call at a local convenience store in Jena, LA, on Tuesday, February 11, 2014. They encountered a man and woman sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot of the business. The pair was identified as Joe D. Johnson, 26, and Jalyn R. Johnson, 30, both of Jena.
As deputies came into contact with the occupants, it was apparent that they were under the influence of some type of impairing substance. Upon further investigation, deputies discovered that Jalyn Johnson was attempting to hide suspected illegal substances on her person.
Ms. Johnson was removed from the vehicle and officers discovered that she was hiding suspected synthetic marijuana on her inside her clothing.
Deputies moved their search to the vehicle and found other suspected synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including synthetic urine used to falsify a urine drug screen test.
All of these illegal items were secured and both Joe D. Johnson and Jalyn R. Johnson were taken into custody at that time and charged with the following crimes:
Joe D. Johnson – disturbing the peace, possession of CDS I (synthetic marijuana), possession of counterfeit drugs, possession of synthetic urine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Jalyn R. Johnson – possession of CDS I (synthetic marijuana), possession of counterfeit drugs, possession of synthetic urine, possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer, and obstruction of justice.
Each was also charged with the crime of contributing to the delinquency of juveniles. Small children were inside the vehicle with them, while they were in possession of these illegal substances.
Jalyn Johnson was transferred to Richland Parish Detention Center and bond was set at $10,000. Joe Johnson remained in the LaSalle Parish Jail as of press time, Monday, February 24, 2014. His bond was set at $20,000.
