The LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office will participate in the annual ‘National Drug Take-Back Day’ on Saturday, April 29, according to Sheriff Scott Franklin.
LaSalle Parish residents can rid their homes of expired or unused prescription drugs by dropping them off at the Sheriff’s Office in Jena or Olla Sub-Station, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that Saturday.
This program has disposed of more than 700 tons of medication at more than 5,300 sites operated by over 4,000 state and local law enforcement agencies in the past four years.
More Americans abuse prescription drugs than the number of those using cocaine, hallucinogens and heroin combined, according to the 2010 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
The Drug Enforcement Administration established the program to prevent old medicine from falling into unauthorized hands and to keep it from being thrown away and polluting water supplies.
