Case Made on Contraband Charge
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, LPSO narcotic detectives were called to the LaSalle Correctional Center in Urania, LA after employees found a suspicious substance in the possession of one of the inmates. When detectives arrived, they determined that the substance was synthetic marijuana.
The inmate, Demond W. Sam, 35, of Lafayette, LA, was placed in a segregation area for questioning. Officers then located a cellular telephone in his possession, as well. On Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, Sam was transferred to the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office and arrested on a charge of introduction of contraband into a penal facility.
He was then returned to the LaSalle Correctional Center to continue serving his sentence. He will face the new charges in District Court at a later date.
