Jena Business Owner Arrested – Faces Two Drug Charges
Detectives with the LaSalle Parish Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Division raided a Jena business Thursday, October 17, 2013 and arrested the owner for drug crimes, according to LaSalle Sheriff Scott Franklin.
Joseph D. Bernal, 34, of Jena, LA, owner of Bondo Joe’s Auto Bayou, located on LA 459 was arrested pursuant to drug warrants stemming from a lengthy drug investigation.
Detectives received information several months ago indicating that Bernal was dealing illegal narcotic drugs out of his auto body shop in Jena, LA. An investigation began and detectives found evidence to support the information. Narcotic detectives then began an undercover operation that provided evidence of the illegal sale of narcotic drugs, specifically the illicit drug methamphetamine, from Bernal’s business.
Bernal was arrested without incident and booked into the LaSalle Parish Jail on charges of distribution of CDS II, methamphetamine. A bond hearing was held and bond was set at $90,000. Bernal was transferred to the LaSalle Correctional Center in Urania where he remained as of press time on Monday, October 21, 2013.
Sheriff Franklin commended his narcotic detectives for their work in the case and for taking another drug dealer off the streets. “Again, I emphasize that we are committed to enforcing illegal drug laws in our parish. We will investigate any complaint received about the possibility of illegal drug activity,” he said. “Every time we arrest a drug dealer and take him off the streets, it benefits our communities, our citizens, and most of all, our innocent children.”
