LaSalle Vehicle Accident Claims Lives of Caldwell Couple
An afternoon vehicle collision in LaSalle Parish on Monday, July 21, 2014 claimed the life of an elderly couple from Caldwell Parish, according to Louisiana State Police.
A woman and a child, in a separate vehicle, were moderately/severely injured.
Troopers responded to the crash around 12:45 p.m., Monday, July 21, 2014. The accident occurred on LA Hwy 28, just east of its intersection with U.S. Hwy 84.
The collision involved a 1995 Ford pickup truck driven by Margie W. Moore, 72, of Columbia, LA and a 2010 Cadillac DTS, driven by Judith Hewitt, 68, of Ferriday, LA.
The Ford was westbound on LA 28 when Moore initially failed to observe that westbound traffic was slowing. In an apparent effort to avoid a rear end collision, Moore swerved left and crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane.
This action resulted in the westbound Ford colliding with the eastbound Cadillac, Troopers reported.
Moore was wearing her seatbelt, but was pronounced dead at the scene by a Deputy LaSalle Parish Coroner. Her only passenger, identified as Bluith Moore, 83, was wearing his seatbelt and was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Hewitt was wearing her seatbelt and received moderate/severe injuries. She was transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center in Alexandria, LA for treatment. Her only passenger, identified as an 8-year-old juvenile from Ferriday, LA received moderate/severe injuries and was also transported to Rapides Regional Trauma Center.
Routine toxicology tests are pending, and the accident remains under investigation.
